(1) Misinformation about Muslims and Islam is often spread through media and
(2) There is a lack of Muslim voices leading in media.
That is why ISNA is pleased to announce a brand new scholarship, the Aziz Jamaluddin Scholarship in Journalism, which is available now to college freshman pursuing a college or university education in the fields of journalism or political science. The deadline to apply to this scholarship is January 31, 2012.
The Aziz Jamaluddin ISNA Scholarship Program was established because of the strong belief in the need of Muslim students pursuing journalism. Mr. Jamaluddin noted the long history of biased media reporting and felt that there has been a lack of voices representative of Islam inside mainstream American media.
His continuing dedication and focus on helping the needy and promoting education and training of future leaders, serves as the inspiration for this scholarship. The primary goal is to have a generation of educated Muslims to speak out and communicate the true meaning of Islam in all types of media. This program is administered by ISNA and is funded by the Jamaluddin family.
