Obesity has been on a rapid rise over the past couple decades in the United States. This says a lot about how weakly the majority of Americans are managing their health. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is vital for one’s future. If the diet is not taken care of, it can result in a long list of health problems. Of course, one always has the option to make an appointment with a nutritionist to seek help and have the nutritionist oversee their diet, but not everyone has the time and money to do so. Diet tracking software programs were developed to allow people to keep track of their daily diet and exercise.

In less than half a century, technological advancement has sky rocketed and continues to do so every year. As the use of technology is becoming more widespread, it makes sense that many professional careers are starting to integrate it into their fields. This applies to nutrition as well; seeing that many people have started diet tracking programs to allow users to constantly track their health. These programs appeal to the public due to their convenience and cost effectiveness.

The common goal of all nutrition tracking software programs is to allow users to manage their daily intake so they can keep track of the number of calories they eat and meet their other daily nutritional goals. It is very easy for people to surpass their daily calorie limit because they miscalculate or simply do not know the number of calories in the food items they consume. These programs do have the potential to be improved further in the future. One feature that can be added to the program is a voice recording option. With voice recording, users would be able to enter their diet by saying the food item instead of typing each one out. If it is incorporated into the program, it would be very beneficial. Data input would be much faster and easier.

Another feature that can be added is a mobile application for the program. Some programs already have one, but others are still lacking. Mobile applications are important because the use of Smartphones has been increasing rapidly over the years and is predicted to rise even more. With mobile applications, users will be able to input their diet on the go instead of having to wait to pull up a laptop to put it in.

Diet tracking software programs offer a number of great features and have proven to be successful in health management. While they may cause inconveniences for some people, others find it to be very useful. It is very likely that the use of these programs will be increasing over the years as technology continues to improve.
